Assassin's Creed series booms on PS5 after new trailer reveal
- Assassin's Creed Shadows was revealed last week causing a giant player count spike across nine PS5 and PS4 entries
- As a whole, the Assassin's Creed series' player count rose by 24%
- Assassin's Creed Mirage saw the biggest spike with 46% more players
Here is every Assassin's Creed game that saw a player count rose, along with the exact percentage each game gained this last week (from Sunday, May 12, 2024, to Sunday, May 19, 2024) after the reveal of Assassin's Creed Shadows on May 15, 2024. The Assassin's Creed games below are ordered from biggest total player count to smallest.
Game | Player Count Increase |
Assassin's Creed Valhalla | +14% |
Assassin's Creed Mirage | +46% |
Assassin's Creed Odyssey | +19% |
Assassin's Creed 2 | +29.7% |
Assassin's Creed Origins | +24.5% |
Assassin's Creed Black Flag | +16.2% |
Assassin's Creed Liberation | +32.1% |
Assassin's Creed Unity | +27.2% |
Assassin's Creed Syndicate | +29.6% |
Assassin's Creed Rogue (not counted in total) | minimum of +1.3% |
Average player count increase (adjusted for sample disparity) | +24.4% |
While Assassin's Creed Rogue may have seen the least growth of the games listed above, however, this is mostly due to the limits of our data sample. Our sample tracks only the top 500 PS5 and PS4 games — AC Rogue failed to make the chart in the previous week. So, for the sake of accuracy, we excluded it from the total percentage. However, we've included it above as the secret tenth Assassin's Creed game that saw a player count rise because it is worth playing the Remastered version on PS4 if you have a chance!
With a more significant player count than Rogue, Assassin's Creed Valhalla saw 14% growth week on week. Its player count was already substantial enough to get it to the 51st position amongst the top 500 PS5 and PS4 games, so this 14% player count bump represents a pretty large increase in players. Interestingly, it looks like Brotherhood, Revelations, Assassin's Creed III, and the Chronicles games were cast aside in favor of the other nine games in the series.
Just in case you hadn't noticed, the Assassin's Creed series has been on sale since May 9, 2024. However, we saw no major player count spike in the first week of sale, so the sale itself didn't cause the leap. In fact, we saw the opposite reaction — most of the games dropped active players when it went on sale. The exceptions were Assassin's Creed II, Black Flag, and Liberation, which all saw a small increase in players for the last two weeks in a row.The other games in the series dipped on the week ending Sunday, May 12, 2024, and picked up significantly and unanimously on the week ending Sunday, May 19, 2024 — the week the Assassin's Creed Shadows PS5 trailer hit. So, while the sale may have helped facilitate the player count rise, it's clear that the reveal of Assassin's Creed Shadows played the biggest role in bringing players back to the series.
What do you think of all the data, though? We've reported before that Assassin's Creed Mirage's one-month player count had a steeper decline than a lot of the rest of the series, but this event looks to have revived it a bit! So, get in the comments and let us know whats on your mind, and I'll catch you down there TrueTrophies team!
Chart compiled using gameplay data from over 3.1 million active PlayStation accounts (not just TrueTrophies accounts). Chart information is copyright GameInsights. Regarding this data:
- When an account opens a game, this is registered as a game being played. Accounts can only register a game once per week.
- Our data is good for suggesting general trends — we represent this using percentages, not numbers.
