Critical Role Announces Special Campaign Featuring Stars from House of the Dragon, Horizon Forbidden West (2024)

Critical Role just announced a special side campaign with a celebrity guest list that includes Horizon Forbidden West’s Noshir Dalal and House of the Dragon’s Abubakar Salim. This special three-part Dungeons and Dragons campaign will air on Twitch, YouTube, and Beacon on the 11th, 18th, and 25th of July.

On Thursday, June 20, Critical Role streamed the live show recording of Episode 98 of its third Dungeons and Dragons campaign, which took place the previous Saturday at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Dimension 20 dungeon master Brennan Lee Mulligan, the exciting episode featured a climactic battle against a powerful demon, as well as the addition of a new character to the party.

However, the live show ended with a surprise twist. Near the end, the characters found an ancient artifact that gave them a vision of the past. Critical Role dungeon master Matt Mercer then left the stage, allowing Mulligan to take the seat to end the show. The episode stinger, and a follow-up video later shared on Twitter, then revealed “Downfall,” a three-part flashback campaign taking place throughout July that features a star-studded cast: Critical Role cast members Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, and Taliesin Jaffe, guest stars Noshir Dalal, Abubakar Salim, and Nick Marini, and Mulligan as the dungeon master.

While past roles of the main Critical Role cast are significant, fans are certain to recognize Dalal, Salim, and Marini as well. Dalal is a prolific voice actor with prominent roles in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Mortal Kombat 1, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Horizon Forbidden West, and even League of Legends. Salim is best known for his role as Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, but has recently starred in House of the Dragon as Alyn of Hull, and found great success with indie hit Tales of Kenzera: Zau as both its creative director and the voice actor of the eponymous protagonist. Marini, on the other hand, focuses on live-action performances, such as his appearance in Cobra Kai as Twig.

Mulligan himself has appeared in Critical Role before as the guest dungeon master for Calamity, an incredible side story that told the tale of the fall of the city of Avalir in ancient history. Now, the Dimension 20 DM returns to Critical Role to tell another tale during the Calamity – but this time, following the story of six divine figures of Exandria. “Downfall” can be watched with no previous knowledge of Critical Role, so new fans can safely watch it without fear of spoilers.
