Every character in the rumoured LEGO Dungeons & Dragons Collectible Minifigures explained (2024)

Don’t know your halfling from your half-elf? Here’s a guide to every single character in the rumoured LEGO Dungeons & Dragons Collectible Minifigures series.

A castle-adjacent LEGO Minifigures series if ever there was one, 71047 Dungeons & Dragons sounds like the stuff of legend for any medieval fantasy fan worth their salt. The 12-strong line-up is said to drop in September for the tabletop roleplaying game’s 50th anniversary – at least according to Promobricks’ maxbautde and redditor Clay_Bricks – with each character priced at €3.99 as usual.

If the initial list of rumoured minifigures in this series has left you scratching your head, though, no worries: we’ve got the D&D primer you need to better visualise what’s supposed to be coming our way later this year. Dive into a complete breakdown of all 12 minifigures below, which spans generic characters, monsters and named villains.

Female dwarf barbarian

In D&D lore, a barbarian is a warrior who relies on brute force and strength to succeed. Pairing that class with a dwarf is seen as a fine way to break the stereotypical roles usually assigned to dwarves (such as a miner or smith). The LEGO version is said to come with a torch, an axe – which uses a new mould – and a reversible head with male and female face prints, which allows you to determine the gender of your dwarf barbarian as you see fit.

Githyanki warlock

Combining the yellow-skinned Githyanki race – once subservient to the Mindflayer, who we’ll come to late – with a warlock class, this magical minifigure is also slated to include a reversible head with male and female options, along with an ‘eye staff’ and brand new moulds for both its hairpiece and a knife accessory. You can get a good idea of what a Gith warlock might look like from redditor PeLLK2’s mock-up above.

Tiefling sorcerer

Wargamer describes Tieflings as ‘best thought of as humans crossed with devils’, largely thanks to the horns that protrude from their heads and the tails that swing from their backs. As you’d probably expect from that description, the LEGO minifigure version is said to use a brand new orange-skinned head mould and hairpiece – but apparently still manages to include male and female face prints. It’s also thought to include trans-pink lightning accessories (that’s the sorcerer bit) and a red baby dragon.

Dragonborn paladin

Doubling down on variety in races, a dragonborn is basically what you’d expect: a humanised dragon. He’s paired here with the paladin class, which is a ‘charismatic hybrid’ capable of spellcasting and melee combat that usually takes the lead for any given D&D party. The LEGO Group is said to be reusing the head mould from VIDIYO’s 43109 Metal Dragon BeatBox in pearl gold, with grey armour, a blue shield and a mace.

Halfling druid

Halflings will be familiar to anyone who knows their Frodo from their Samwise, given they’re all-but-identical to Tolkien’s Hobbits. (So: expect short legs.) The more interesting half of this minifigure is its druid class, which in D&D is a support character that can transform into a beast, heal fellow party members and cast spells. The LEGO minifigure is rumoured to include a brand new antlered hood, along with a staff, cape, reversible face print and a bird accessory.

Aarakocra ranger

Now we’re getting really weird and wonderful. The Aarakocra are an additional race in the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, and are basically big anthropomorphic birds. The first playable D&D race that could fly, they’re best known for their huge wings, and the LEGO Group has reportedly cooked up a brand new mould to represent them in 71047 Dungeons & Dragons. That’s in addition to a new head mould, faun legs, a small dog and a bow. This Aarakocra will apparently be white.

Half-elf bard

Can’t decide between playing as a human or elf character? Thanks to the half-elf, you don’t have to. Born of both races, this race represents the best (and worst) of two different character archetypes. The bard, meanwhile, is equally indecisive: known as a ‘jack of all trades’, they’re useful both in and out of combat and can master plenty of different skills and spells. The LEGO version supposedly includes new moulds for its hairpiece and a scarf, along with a printed lute, sword and reversible head.

Mind flayer

Every character in the rumoured LEGO Dungeons & Dragons Collectible Minifigures explained (9)

You don’t need to be a prolific Dungeon Master to be familiar with the mind flayer: the monstrous entity was core to the second season of Stranger Things, even if the enormous depiction of it in the Upside Down was a far cry from the humanoid version seen in D&D. The LEGO minifigure is likely to be closer to the version of the illithids (as they’re also known) pictured above, and is said to include a new head mould and an intellect devourer (or brain-dog) accessory, which also uses a new piece.

Strahd von Zarovich

A powerful and ancient vampire, Count Strahd von Zarovich is a lawful evil villain who first popped up in the 1983 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure module Ravenloft. He’s since appeared in a bunch of other places and has been named one of the game’s greatest villains, which makes him a worthy candidate for 71047 Dungeons & Dragons. He’s rumoured to come with a sword, cape, goblet and rat accessories.

The Lady of Pain

The Lady of Pain’s origins remain mysterious, but she was essentially the face of the 1994 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting Planescape. The ruler of the city of Sigil, she could block deities from coming in and was most interested in maintaining the status quo. She’ll probably make for a great LEGO minifigure, too: rumours suggest that she’ll benefit from a brand new head mould, and comes complete with a specialised cape and printed cube. (That might be the cubic gate.)

Szass Tam

An incredibly powerful lich – a term which here means an evil undead spellcaster – Szazz Tam is among the oldest named Dungeons & Dragons villains, first appearing in a short story in 1977. He also appeared briefly in last year’s Dungeons & Dragons: Among Thieves movie, looking every bit as villainous as you’d expect. His LEGO minifigure is said to include a trans-red skull, a dark red collared cape and an ‘energy blast’.

Tasha the Witch Queen

Known variously as Natasha the Dark, Iggwilv the Witch Queen, the daughter of Baba Yaga or just Tasha, this powerful archmage is easily one of the most iconic Dungeons & Dragons villains of all time, so her presence in this LEGO Minifigures series would make sense – and better still, she’s said to reuse the excellent dual-moulded hat and hairpiece first used by Dani Dennison in 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage. Rumours suggest she’ll also come with book and cauldron accessories.

There you have it: all 12 characters supposedly coming our way in 71047 Dungeons & Dragons in September. The new series is said to retail for €3.99 in Europe, matching the RRP of previous Collectible Minifigures ranges, though whether it will still be in the current cardboard packaging remains to be seen. As does the veracity of this rumour at all: until it’s confirmed by the LEGO Group, take it with a pinch of salt.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
