Pale Master/Rogue Build Help <(~_~)> (2024)

I'm ok with people who offer information you might not know when you ask a question like this. I am not cool with people who say "stupid idea. build my idea instead." If you hadn't considered a pure Wiz, then you might look back at the helpful comments some people left. But otherwise, ignore them and focus on ppl giving solid advice for the actual build you're asking for.

I actually have a recently Lesser Reincarnated Wiz/Rogue (currently 13 Wiz/1 Rogue). I don't have the stats b/c I'm at work, but here's what I learned.

Original build: Human. good. 1 extra feat, 1 extra skill point per level. Maxed INT, did high DEX and some other junk. Human also gives you if you want it Human versatility IV - +4 to any one of the following - skills (trap, UMD, etc.), AC, saves, etc. this is GREAT flexibility for situations. Human unlike Drow, also gives you enhancements of Human adaptability (+1 to 2 different stats). if you build smart, you can use this to get INT even higher (maybe not drow, but close)

18 INT starting
+2 tome
+1 Human Adapt
+3 Wizard enhancements
+3 Shroud item
+6 item
+5 levels
---------------------
38 INT @ level 20 (32 point build will be slightly higher than 28 point human)

New build: Human. still good. However, like others suggested, I put about (32 point build) i think this is slightly off but:
9 STR (added +1 tome. being burdened carrying loot bites!)
8 or 10 DEX (think it was 8)
17 CON (the different in hit points already is tremendous combined with Toughness)
18 INT
8 WIS
10 (I think) CHA - for UMD basically

Toughess and Insightful reflexes - you can do both with the extra human feat
Spell Focus: Necro (Pale Master I requirement)
Greater SF: Necro
Spell Penetration
Greater Spell Penetration
Extend (Wiz 5 meta feat)
Maximize (Wiz 10 meta feat i think i took)
Heighten? or was it Quicken (Quicken is good but hurts a wiz b/c of smaller spell point pool

He is much less squishy with Toughness, high CON (also helps concentration) and Insightful reflexes.

here's teh evasion debate (pros/cons). not gonna debate pure wiz vs. this build because there are plenty of ways to debate that but this isn't what you're asking for. Build a pure WF Wizard for capstone maybe. i might. this build is very fun.

2 rogue:

Lose 1 more level of rogue (all spells like wail, finger of death - your friend with your high SP and Necro focus - will come 1 level later so you don't get Wail of banshee until 19. you can i believe still get level 19 wiz spells by going 19/1 wiz/rogue. Lose 1 level of spell points/spell pen

1 rogue:

Lose evasion, but with 18 starting INT and human, you have PLENTY of skill points to max out Disable Device, Search, UMD and Concentration. DD and Search are INT based. I never have to use a skill boost yet on most of the quests I've been in to get a trap. Open Lock (DEX based) you can put some points in too and hey, there is always the Knock spell for those pesky locked chests worst case scenario. but i've had no trouble opening anything yet.

Make up for evasion with things like Extended Displacement, Greater Hero, Human versatility burst of +4 to saves, a +4 or +5 resistance item. It won't match a rogue but it won't stink either. Also I think then you get access to level 19 wiz spell vs. topping out at the level 17 spells (correct me if i'm wrong here).

Pale Master II and III also help boost hit points slightly. So does LIch form (think it's +4 to CON, +2 to INT, etc. for about 3 minutes?) enhancement.

I agree the enhancements are tight. You will only really be able to focus on Fire/Ice enhancements and may not be able to max them out if you go Pale Master III AND get all the levels of skeleton/archer/mages from what i'm seeing.

But it's a very fun build so far. I haven't even taken advantage of the negative energy self-healing. I just re-did this about 4 days ago or less but so far MUCH less squishy! Pale Master/Rogue Build Help <(~_~)> (1)

Hope that helped in a rambling way. Others also had good ideas. CON is a must.

WF might be a way to go but not sure it's right for the Palemaster and probabyl better for a pure wizard but not sure yet. the self-healing from WF wizard repair spells, etc. is pretty nice when i tried that build and they are tougher in general.....
